About YASHADA

Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration

Named after Shri (Late) Yashwantrao Chavan, the first Chief Minister of Maharashtra, and later Deputy Prime Minister of India, Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration (YASHADA) is the apex training institute of the Government of Maharashtra.

Comprising the Administrative Training Institute, the State Institute of Rural Development and the State Institute of Urban Development, YASHADA is a composite Academy that also includes the Centre for Equity and Social Justice, the Centre for Disaster Management, Research and Documentation Centre, the Centre for Environment and Development, the Centre for Information Technology, the Centre for Power Sector Development and the Management Development Centre.

The Academy was established as the Administrative Staff College (ASC) at Mumbai in 1963. It shifted to its current premises at the Raj Bhavan Complex, in Pune in 1984. The Academy was renamed and popularly known as the Maharashtra Institute of Development Administration (MIDA). On 26 November, 1990, the Academy was renamed as the YASHWANTRAO CHAVAN ACADEMY OF DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION (YASHADA). As a composite multi-institutional Academy at Pune, it also coordinates nearly twenty regional Panchayat Training Institutes throughout Maharashtra.

About CED YASHADA

Centre for Environment and Development, YASHADA

YASHADA has positioned environment and development as a strategic training and research intervention at the Academy. The Centre for Environment and Development, aptly named PARIVESH, meaning holism, was established within the campus on 29 June 1996. The Centre has been facilitating training, research and policy interventions at the district, municipal and state level with in the Government of Maharashtra.

The training and applications programme have focused on environmental concerns with perspectives on planning in rural, urban and infrastructure sectors for officials, non-officials, university academics and non government organisations.

Interventions and collaboration are meant to encourage and support the State Government's departments to develop programmes for environmental protection and nature conservation, while ensuring sustainable economic development.
